Miranda Mulligan is a journalist, designer and an Internaut!, running on 90% caffeine and 10% water. Based in Chicago, she’s now with the Knight Lab, a joint initiative of Northwestern University’s Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Medill School of Journalism.

Formerly the design director for digital at The Boston Globe, Miranda has focused most of her attention to the intersection of content and technology for the past couple years. In 2011, she led the responsive web design approach to The Boston Globe’s new site – BostonGlobe.com.

Miranda believes, passionately, that journalists should learn more about the internet. Understanding our medium makes us better storytellers. There has never before been more urgency for our industry to understand enough code to have meaningful conversations with technologists. The time is now! for our future journalists to be inspired to become: Internauts!

Miranda spends most of her non-working hours hanging out with her two-year-old puggle, Leelou, slow-cooking pig meats for loved ones and drinking too much wine.
