A renewed drive to try new things

courtney johnston gained a renewed drive from Webstock:

I went to Webstock expecting more of an ‘applied craft’ approach: this was the problem we faced & here’s how we solved it; this is the opportunity we saw & here’s how we exploited it. What I came out of it with was a renewed drive to try new things, and to find the most efficient, most fluid, most equitable, most success-focused ways of working with people (and to have pity on the Morlocks, of course)

Damian Conway should be required watching everywhere, anytime

Pete McVicar thinks everyone should watch Damian Conway:

The quality of the speakers this year was outstanding, even the speakers who were a little less ‘polished’, totally made up for it in content of their presentation. I really enjoyed every speaker in one shape or another. However, I’ve come to the conclusion out of all that awesomeness, Damian Conway’s should be required watching everywhere, anytime design, development, advertising and/or communications people come together to do anything involving a website until we all get it right. …

One of the best conferences

Walter Rumsby not only kept score of the memes at Webstock, but also heard something interesting:

…on Friday evening I was chatting to Tom Coates and along came Nat Torkington who said hullo (to Tom). They both agreeded that this was one of the best conferences they had ever been to. So I wouldn’t be surprised if O’Reilly conferences borrow one or two ideas.

Meanwhile, I’m already looking forward to the next Webstock.

Fuss over seemingly little details

Rowan Simpson:

I’m not sure how they convince these people to travel half way around the world to come and talk to us, but good on them for doing it.

Actually, that’s not true at all. It’s obvious how they do it. They treat the speakers like rock stars, fuss over seemingly little details, and go the extra mile to create a great experience for everybody who attends – right down to the t-shirts, bags and name tags. It works! Even people who attend lots of conferences seem to love it.
